Because you are alive, anything is possible. - Thich Nhat Hanh
Please note: All sessions are done via telehealth at this time.
Client-centered:
I don't adhere to my own agenda; our work is guided by what you want and need. I will engage my training and clinical judgment to guide our work, and I will bring in concepts from a variety of theories, but it will always be tailored to you.
Focused on your inherent strengths and resilience:
Life is not easy and to get through, you have had to harness your innate and learned capacities. We will focus and expand on these. And we will explore struggles from a respectful place. The symptoms that create the most suffering for us now were at one time brilliant and adaptive strategies used to survive the world we were born into. We work to find alternatives and to resolve the pain that lay beneath them.
Grounded in theory:
I incorporate neuroscience, attachment theory, Somatic Experiencing (SEP Provisional, expected completion in 2022), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Ego State therapy, or working with parts of the self, and EMDR (EMDRIA certified as of 2018) modalities into the work. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a powerful body-centered therapy that integrates neuroscience with theory and technique from cognitive and psychodynamic therapy to cultivate straight forward somatic interventions, such as helping clients to become aware of their bodies, track their bodily sensations, and implement physical actions that promote empowerment and competency. Somatic Experiencing facilitates the completion and release of frozen stress responses in a gentle way to resolve past trauma by helping clients develop increased capacity to tolerate intense physical sensations and emotions. EMDR is an evidenced-based trauma-processing modality that has the capacity to bring lasting relief to long standing problems in a relatively short amount of time. Parts work helps us connect with our wisest and most compassionate selves so that we can learn to facilitate healing communication with and between burdened parts of ourselves,
Politicized Context:
Individual suffering must be explored through a collective and politicized lens. We will look at how systemic oppression and systems of domination are tied to your experience of yourself, your struggles, your resilience, your relationships, and of the therapy itself. I am endeavor to be anti-racist, LGBTQI+ affirming, sex positive, trauma-informed, anti-diet and body positive. I am also highly aware of my position of power in the therapy relationship and I invite conversations about how power and privilege play out not only in your life, but in our work as well.

The present moment:
Mindfulness is a foundational component of therapy. You will gain more awareness of the present moment by continually bringing your attention to sensations, thoughts, emotions, and impulses in your body, moment by moment. This allows us to grow our capacity to observe our experience without being controlled or overwhelmed by it.
